Why Harbour Island

An island built for weddings, by accident

Harbour Island is small, about three and a half miles long and half a mile wide. That is exactly why it works. The entire island is walkable or reachable by golf cart. You will not share Pink Sands Beach with a thousand cruise passengers. Your guests stay within ten minutes of one another. Photography looks cinematic without heavy post-production because the light, the sand colour, and the water colour do the work.

01

Seclusion

No cruise port, no mass tourism, no resort megaplex. Harbour Island has a boutique hideaway feel: quiet streets, golf carts instead of cars, and beaches that never feel crowded.

02

Pink Sands Beach

There are only a handful of pink sand beaches in the world. This is the most famous, and it is genuinely pink: a soft blush tone that photographs like nowhere else on the planet.

03

Design-forward venues

The Dunmore, Pink Sands Resort, Coral Sands, Valentines Residences, Rock House, and Ocean View Club are among the most design-conscious hotels in the Caribbean.

From Glenn

Harbour Island has a different rhythm than Nassau. The boutique resorts work differently from the mega-resorts on Cable Beach, the licence is handled at the local Administrator's Office rather than the Registrar General in Nassau, and the water taxi from North Eleuthera has to be timed into the ceremony schedule. After 24 years and dozens of Pink Sands Beach ceremonies, the couples who tell me their day was effortless are the ones who let one person handle every piece. That is what I do. Licence, ceremony, certificate, Apostille. One number to call. No gaps.

Where to Get Married

Harbour Island wedding venues

Glenn coordinates ceremonies at every venue on Harbour Island, from the public stretches of Pink Sands Beach to the most exclusive boutique resorts and private villas.

Pink Sands Beach

The signature three-mile stretch of pink sand. All Bahamian beaches are public Crown land, so small ceremonies require no permit. Glenn coordinates timing to avoid the busier midday window and knows the quieter stretches north and south of the main access points.

Best for: 2 to 30 guests · Barefoot ceremonies · No resort venue fee

Pink Sands Resort

One of the most photographed boutique resorts in the Caribbean. Private cottages, a private stretch of Pink Sands Beach, and flexible ceremony locations including beachfront, lawn, and pool terrace.

Best for: 2 to 40 guests · Full resort hosting on the signature beach

The Dunmore

Colonial-style cottages, manicured lawns, and a private beachfront. Refined, quiet, design-led. The on-site restaurant is among the best on the island. Glenn coordinates with the Dunmore events team.

Best for: 10 to 50 guests · Elevated culinary component

Coral Sands

Large beachfront property with multiple ceremony and reception locations: direct beach, lawn, and covered terrace. More flexibility for larger guest counts than the smaller boutiques.

Best for: 20 to 80 guests · Multi-setting celebrations

Valentines Residences

Bayside rather than beachfront, with marina views and a pool deck suited for ceremonies and receptions. Often chosen when couples want a sunset-over-the-water ceremony on the calmer west side of the island.

Best for: 10 to 60 guests · Sunset · Boating-oriented guests

Rock House

Cliffside setting with panoramic ocean views. Architecturally distinctive, small footprint, intimate scale.

Best for: Up to 30 guests · Dramatic backdrop

Ocean View Club

Hilltop boutique property with elevated beach views. Quieter, less trafficked, set away from the main strip.

Best for: Very private elopements · Small weddings

Private villa takeovers

Harbour Island has an exceptional collection of private villas, some within walking distance of Pink Sands Beach, others on the bay side. Villa takeovers give complete scheduling flexibility, custom catering, and multi-day hosting.

Best for: Full creative control · Multi-day weekend takeover
Travel & Logistics

Getting to Harbour Island

Harbour Island is not on the main Bahamas flight network. Getting there is straightforward but involves one connection for most US guests. Glenn arranges every transfer for couples and wedding guests and sends a clear arrival-day guide.

From the US east coast

Most couples fly into North Eleuthera airport (ELH). There are direct flights from Miami and Atlanta on some schedules. From other US cities, connect via Nassau on Bahamasair, Pineapple Air, or Western Air, a 20-minute hop. Connecting flights do not appear on Expedia or Google Flights. Glenn sends every guest direct booking links.

From the UK and Europe

Route via Miami or New York to Nassau, then the 20-minute connection to North Eleuthera. British Airways operates London Heathrow to Nassau direct. American Airlines and Delta connect via Miami and Atlanta respectively.

From ELH to Harbour Island

Once you land at ELH, a 10-minute taxi takes you to the dock at Three Island Harbour. From there, a 10-minute water taxi crosses to Harbour Island's Government Dock. Water taxis run throughout the day. Glenn arranges all transfers for couples and guests.

Best Time of Year

When to plan your Harbour Island wedding

Based on 24+ years of Bahamas ceremonies, Glenn's recommendation: November, March, and April are the sweet spot for Harbour Island. Dry-season weather with less congestion than the December and January peak.

Peak Season · Best Weather

November through April

Consistent sunshine, lower humidity, water in the mid-70s, air temperature 72 to 82°F. These months book fastest. Boutique resorts have limited inventory and Saturdays go 6 to 12 months out. November, March, and April balance weather and availability.

72 to 82°F Dry season Books fastest
Off-Season · More Availability

May through October

Warmer (85°F+), higher humidity, more chance of brief afternoon showers. Tropical storm season runs June through November. Lower hotel rates and easier dates. Glenn schedules ceremonies for morning windows in this season. In 200+ ceremonies, none cancelled due to rain.

82 to 88°F Lower hotel rates More dates open

Important: Under Bahamas law, all legal outdoor ceremonies must conclude before sunset. Glenn schedules every ceremony to finish at least 30 minutes before published sunset for both legal compliance and the best natural light.

Bahamas Wedding Cost

What does a Harbour Island wedding cost?

Harbour Island sits at the higher end of the Bahamas cost range. Boutique resorts cost more than Nassau equivalents, and guest accommodation is limited and premium. Glenn's package prices include 10% Bahamas VAT and there are no hidden venue charges in his fees.

Common Questions

Harbour Island wedding FAQ

Fact-checked answers to the questions couples ask most before booking a Harbour Island ceremony.

Who do I call for a wedding on Harbour Island?

Call or WhatsApp Glenn Ferguson directly at +1-(242)-395-8495. Glenn is a Licensed Bahamas Marriage Officer and WPIC-Certified Wedding Planner with 24+ years and 200+ weddings.

He handles every element of your Harbour Island wedding: the marriage licence at the local Administrator's Office, the legal ceremony, vendor coordination, certified marriage certificate, and Apostille processing. One person, one fee, no coordination gaps.

What makes Harbour Island special for weddings?

Pink Sands Beach is the obvious answer, but the real appeal is scale. The island is small enough that your wedding weekend feels cohesive. Guests stay within a golf-cart ride of each other, Pink Sands Beach never feels crowded the way a Nassau beach does, and the boutique resorts give every wedding a design-led look without needing expensive styling. It is the most photographable island in The Bahamas.

Can we get married directly on Pink Sands Beach?

Yes. Pink Sands Beach is public Crown land, so no permit is required for a small ceremony. Glenn coordinates ceremony timing to avoid the busier midday window and knows the quieter stretches. For larger setups (arch, chairs, floral installations), he manages all logistics including equipment transport.

How long does it take to get married legally on Harbour Island?

Minimum two full days. Arrive day one. Apply for the licence on day two at the local Administrator's Office after the 24-hour residency is met. The ceremony can take place the same day as the licence or any day after. Most couples build in 3 to 5 days to relax and enjoy the island.

Where does the marriage licence appointment happen on Harbour Island?

At the Administrator's Office on the island. Glenn books the appointment, brings you there, and handles all the paperwork. The appointment itself takes about 30 minutes.

Can guests fly directly to Harbour Island?

Not directly. There is no airport on Harbour Island itself. Guests fly to North Eleuthera (ELH), take a 10-minute taxi to Three Island Harbour, then a 10-minute water taxi. Some schedules offer direct flights from Miami and Atlanta to ELH; otherwise connect through Nassau. Glenn sends every guest a booking guide.

What is the best month for a Harbour Island wedding?

November, March, and April are the sweet spot. Dry-season weather with less congestion than the December and January peak. May and November (shoulder season) offer good weather at lower rates. Glenn avoids outdoor ceremonies in the June through October afternoon window when brief rain showers are more common.

Do you officiate same-sex ceremonies on Harbour Island?

Same-sex marriage is not legally recognised under Bahamian law, but Glenn performs symbolic commitment ceremonies for same-sex couples at any Harbour Island venue. The symbolic ceremony has no legal weight but can be every bit as meaningful.

How far in advance should we book a Harbour Island wedding?

For peak season (December through April), book 6 to 12 months ahead. Boutique resorts have limited inventory and fill fast. For shoulder and off-season, 3 to 6 months is usually comfortable. Glenn has coordinated Harbour Island elopements on as little as two weeks' notice when dates opened up.
