What British Citizens Need to Marry in the Bahamas
The document requirements for UK citizens are straightforward. Glenn reviews everything before you fly so there are no issues at the Registrar General's Office in Nassau.
Required for All UK Couples
Valid UK passport — must be current through your travel dates. Original full birth certificate — not the short form — with raised seal. Order from the General Register Office if needed. Affidavit of singlehood — Glenn prepares this ($95 each). Proof of arrival — airline ticket or Bahamas immigration stamp.
If Previously Married
Decree Absolute — the final divorce document, not the Decree Nisi. Original or certified copy with raised seal. Death certificate — if widowed, original death certificate of former spouse. Glenn checks every page before you board your flight.

Is a Bahamas Marriage Recognised in England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland?

To use your marriage certificate for official UK purposes — passport name changes, HMRC records, bank accounts, NHS records — you'll need an Apostille on your Bahamas certificate. The Apostille is an international certification that confirms the document is genuine.

After getting frustrated with British bureaucracy and their marriage process, my partner (now husband!) and I were desperately searching for places where we could get married easily and promptly.
